I first came across Ada in the family tree of John Hayworth at Wiki Tree (https://www.wikitree.com/genealogy/Hayworth-Family-Tree-79). Curiosity piqued, I started to dig as John had no listing for Ada's parents.
First I searched for her birth at the General Records Office and from Family Search at the LDS and found:

Then I looked for confirmation of Ada's marriage confirming her place in John's family tree:

This was confirmed by the 1901 Census which shows her living with the head of the household John Platt in Bolton, Lancs. Next, the GRO record indicated that the mother was a Molyneux. This turned out to be a miss spelling though as from the 1881 Census we find this record of the Mullineaux household at 11 Rutter Street, Little Bolton. Note here that the Pennance name has been mis-transcribed as Rennance. A common enough occurance. This gives us that the likely parents of Ada Pennance are Sarah Pennance age 38 and Jonathan Pennance age 39.

Contacting John to inform him of my findings he wrote back:
"In 1894 Ada gave birth to a daughter who she named Sarah Alice. At that time she was living at 100 Leicester Street, Bolton.
The registry of births states that Ada Pennance was a single woman at the time. John Platt did not marry Ada until the following year, so Sarah Alice was an illegitimate child. Sarah Alice was raised by Johnathan and Sarah Pennance as their adopted daughter. Sarah Alice became Sarah Alice Haslam and died in 1960. I found a photo of her at Ancestry.com. My grandmother Doris never mentioned that she had a half sister, so either she didn't know or it was one of those things that people didn't talk about."
So anyway, next we might take a look at Jonathan Pennance and Sarah Pennance (nee Millineaux). Maybe they will link up to our family tree or maybe they are part of another branch entirely. Who knows?
