So, looking for the likely parents of Jonathan Pennance, I'd say this entry from the 1851 Census is a likely candidate. Once again, note the mistranscription of the surname, this time becoming Panance.

If correct it would give Jonathan's parents as a Mary and John Pennance, along with their six children, Alice, George, James, Joseph, Jonathan and Richard in Little Bolton, Lancashire.
